fruit filling

  • unsalted butter, for greasing skillet
  • 3 cupsmall diced and peeled apples (any variety)
  • 3 cupsmall diced and peeled pears
  • 2 tbspall-purpose flour
  • 2 tbspwhite sugar
  • 1 tbspfresh lemon juice

topping

  • 1 cupold-fashioned oats
  • 1 cupall-purpose flour
  • 0.75 cuppacked light brown sugar
  • 0.5 tspground cinnamon
  • 0.25 tspsalt
  • 0.75 cupunsalted butter, melted
  1. 1Make the fruit filling: Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Grease a 10-inch skillet or pie plate with butter.
  2. 2In a large bowl, stir together the apples, pears, flour, sugar and lemon juice.
  3. 3Pour the fruit filling into the prepared pie plate.
  4. 4Make the topping: In a medium bowl, stir together the oats, flour, brown sugar, cinnamon and salt.
  5. 5Stir in the melted butter until combined.
  6. 6Using your fingers, clump together the topping and sprinkle it on the fruit.
  7. 7Place the pie plate atop a baking sheet and bake the crisp until the fruit is bubbling and the topping is golden brown, 40 to 50 minutes.
  8. 8Remove the crisp from the oven and let it cool slightly before serving.
