1Sift flour, measure and add baking powder and salt.
2Cream together shortening, peanut butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Add egg and vanilla.
3Add flour mixture to creamed mixture; mix well.
4Form dough into balls the size of marbles. Place one inch apart on ungreased baking sheets. Press crosswise with a fork.
5Bake in moderate oven (375°F) for 10 to 12 minutes. Makes about 5 dozen 2-inch cookies.
Notes
Quantities approximate — faded/photocopied community cookbook source. Mrs. Tomco's variation: use 1 cup flour and only 1 tsp baking soda; omit salt, baking powder, and vanilla.
